And the journey begins

Well Thanksgiving is over and Chistmas looms as I work my way toward surgery day. I am using this blog to record my journey to and beyond gastric bypass surgery. It is time to do the ratical to get healthy. Weight-loss Surgery (wls) is a tool that I am comfortable using to achieve my goals of getting to a healthy weight, getting off diabetes medication, and embracing healthy eating for a lifetime.

January 27th 2014, will be here before I know it and I need to get all my ducks in a row. I'm making little changes every day. So far, I have already kicked the soda habit and I've started drinking more water. I am getting everything together to make life easier especially in the first days after surgery. I bought a Magic Bullet mini-blender for making protein smoothies, creamed soups, and soft foods that will be easy on my healing pouch. It works great! I tried a protein smoothie just to see and it was great! It is great for a super quick breakfast.

1/2 c. skim milk
1/2 c. frozen blueberries
1 scoop vanilla or chocolate protein powder
4 icecubes
1/2 med banana

Add ingredients to blender or Magic Bullet blend till smooth and creamy. This smoothie is sweet fruity and has 20g. of protein. For 270 cals it is a great breakfast that's low in fat and the only sugars are what is in the fruit. I have also made this with frozen unsweetened pitted cherries. Next will be frozen peaches. the possibilities are endless. I'm even going to try some pure pumpkin with cinnamon for a pumpkin pie protein smoothie.
